Mid Week Tease: Breaker Zone

MidWeekTeaseHappy Hump Day! Let’s celebrate it with the first Mid Week Tease of 2014, courtesy of the lovely and talented Sandra Bunino. This week, I’ll be sharing a teaser from the second book in the Olympic Cove series, Breaker Zone.

Enjoy, and make sure to hit the list after the teaser to see other great Mid Week Teases!

When Dr. Nick Gardiner goes on the run from a psychotic ex and ends up at Olympic Cove, the last thing he expects to find is his friend Ian living with two redheaded demigods and learning how to be a storm god. Adding to the confusion is a wounded merman named Aidan who washes up in the cove, requiring Nick’s professional help. As it turns out, the handsome mer and his partner Liam have other plans for the ER doctor — to claim him as their agapetos, their destined mate, and fulfill his need to submit.

A chance encounter at a local junk shop reveals that Nick has his own role to play in the battle against the insane Nereid Thetis. Under the reluctant mentorship of Chiron, Nick must master the use of the Rod of Asclepius if he wants to rescue his mates from a ghastly fate and help Ian save the planet.

###

Nick woke up to slanting sunlight coming through the window blinds. Rubbing gummy eyes, he rolled over and checked the alarm clock. 8:12 AM.

After a moment, he realized the sunlight wasn’t what had woken him up. A rhythmic creaking noise came from overhead, combined with muffled words and the occasional moan.

Ian, you sex god, you. The creaking picked up a notch, and he distinctly heard the blond beg someone to go deeper. Fuck, he bottoms? Oh, God, that’s so hot.

Smiling sleepily, Nick slid his hand under his boxers and loosely stroked his cock, already half-hard. He felt a flicker of guilt about masturbating to the sound of his friend and two gorgeous redheads fucking their brains out overhead, but the twinge quickly disappeared as the creaking sped up.

He tried to imagine how they were positioned.  He could hear Ian’s voice, so the blond wasn’t sucking off the other twin. Maybe he’s fucking one of them while the other one fucks him?

The image popped into his mind; the three of them on their sides, pumping in unison as Aphros fucked Ian from behind, and Ian drove into the other twin. Nick imagined all three bodies lightly sheened in sweat as they flexed and thrust, hard shafts driving deeply into muscled flesh. He stroked his own cock more roughly now, picturing Ian’s hand reaching around and jacking off the twin he was fucking while he rocked on Aphros’s cock, taking the blue-eyed twin deep and loving it.

The fantasy morphed; and now he was in the other twin’s place, Ian’s hand massaging his cock while he plowed Nick’s ass. The other twin moved lower on the bed, warm mouth closing around Nick’s shaft as Ian’s hand dropped away. Nick moaned, imagining a head of auburn curls bobbing greedily at his groin as Ian thrust into him with a jackhammer pace.

Pleasure sizzled down his spine and into his groin, and his climax came to a quick head. For a moment he regretted not pulling his boxers down, then gave in as his balls tightened and warm semen spurted over his hand. Overhead, it sounded as if things were also coming to a head, judging from the hoarse cries and one low, loud roar.

Panting softly, Nick pulled his hand out of his boxers and wiped the translucent stickiness covering his fingers on his t-shirt. The creaking noises stopped, and all he could hear now was muffled voices talking and soft laughter. His afterglow disappeared like a blown-out candle flame. His last few boyfriends hadn’t been big on apre-sex talking or cuddling. Bannon usually sent him straight to the bathroom after they finished scening or fucking, and his idea of aftercare was a pat on the ass and a casually tossed lap blanket. That should have been a big neon stop sign right there.

He remembered what it was like to be with someone who laughed and pulled him back to bed after sex. Someone who would hold him and keep him warm after an intense scene, letting him come down gently from the high of subspace. Someone who just wanted to be with him, full stop.

To get that in duplicate…

Considering your taste in boyfriends, you might as well wish for a couple of hot mermen. That’s about as likely to happen as you finding a pair of perfect Doms. Just be happy for Ian, and leave it at that.

So, it’s December…wait. it’s DECEMBER?

getlitAw, crap. What with the plague knocking out most of November and then getting sucked into the Plushie-Making Hellmouth (one more to do and then I’m finally free, and dear Lord I have GOT to learn how to say no), I don’t have a lot of time to finish Two to Tango and Breaker Zone before the end of the year, but I’m going to do my damnedest to get them finished and out.

In the meantime, since I apparently like pain, I was thinking of doing a Christmas free read about Paul, Rory and Tim, my menage from Vanilla-Free Christmas: Manlove Edition and “Tied with a Bow.” Well, it is their first anniversary as a triad, and I’m sure I could get them into some entertaining trouble if I put my mind to it, plus I’m wondering how Amira is doing and if Paul’s hired any new staff for the bookstore during the Christmas rush. If this is something that would appeal to you, let me know downstairs in the comments and I’ll see about getting it cranked out this weekend.

NickLiamAidanSpeaking of writing, as you may know (Bob), Breaker Zone will feature a pair of mermen as major characters. In fact, the Christmas ornaments at right are my present to myself this year to celebrate Aidan and Liam (I know that technically Nick is a human, but I couldn’t pass up the doctor merman), so, yeah, I’m rather fond of fishy hunks at the moment. That being the case, I would like to tell you all about a very nifty Kickstarter project called Myth as Object by sculptor Cameron Stalheim. This is what he has to say about it:

This project aims to realize a monumental work of sculpture for my MFA graduating thesis at the Maryland Institute College of Art. I will be creating a massive, thirty-foot long merman. I have enlisted adult film star Colby Keller to model for the life cast that will become the base for the sculpture. Using skin-safe silicone, a three-dimensional replica of Colby’s body will be made and cast into plastic. The cast will then be transformed into a merman, lying serpentine in the middle of the gallery floor.

Stemming from my experience as a gay male from the Midwest and transitioning into the gay culture of the east coast, this sculpture, the first in a new series of work, questions the relationship between fantasy, reality and the objectification that happens in between.

We Camerons have to stick together, and Mr. Stalheim is only a measly $170 short of making his goal, so if you have a few extra shekels in your pocket I urge you to consider donating. It’s going to be a gorgeous sculpture (unsurprising, considering that the brilliant and delightful Colby Keller is the model), plus you’ll become a patron of the arts, which is always nice.

So, yes, I’m back

And I must apologize for the radio silence, but as it turned out Ramón decided to sweep me away on a Disney cruise for seven days to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary (why, yes, I’m old).

And yes, I know — an erotic romance writer on board a Disney ship. It is to laugh. Except that it wasn’t. Disney cruises cater just as much to non-parental adults as they do to families, and we had an absolute ball on the cruise. Plus I wound up being seated at dinner with ANOTHER writer who is currently working on an erotic romance novel (hi, K!), and everywhere I turned it seemed that there were erotic romance readers and fans.

For example, I decided to pamper myself and get a facial (no, not that kind, get your mind out of the gutter, that’s my spot) at the on-board spa. As it turned out, my aesthetician (hi, Cheryl!) was a huge FSoG fan and wanted a list of my books when she found out I wrote erom. She mourned the fact that she hadn’t brought her copies of the Grey saga on the ship with her, so while I was in Key West I hunted down a set and bought them for her because I gotta be honest, this woman worked miracles on my crocodile-like skin. I later found out that she was sharing them with the massage therapist who did my chair massage (hi, Emily!).

Which just goes to show that smut is the gift that keeps on giving.

So, yeah, Disney cruises are not just for kids. I had a wonderful seven days at sea, went snorkeling (research for Olympic Cove, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it), visited Nassau and bought a ridiculously expensive but very pretty pendant, enjoyed the musical stylings of an utterly charming Canadian pianist (hi, Tim!), worked on Two to Tango and Breaker Zone while I was out there, and started my NaNoWriMo project which is finishing Behind the Iron Cross. My friend Michelle said, “NaNoWriMo while still on vacation? That’s hardcore.” I explained that I had to raise the money for the next cruise somehow. I also promised that I’d dedicate a book to Cheryl for her masterful work, and I may well just put her, Emily, Tim, and a few other people into Olympic Cove #4. Already came up with a great sequence set on a cruise ship, heh, heh, heh…

Mid Week Tease: Breaker Zone

Mid Week Tease Button

Happy Hump Day! Let’s celebrate it with a Mid Week Tease, courtesy of the lovely and talented Sandra Bunino. This week, I’ll be sharing a teaser from my current WIP Breaker Zone, the second book in the Olympic Cove series. When Ian’s friend Nick Gardiner shows up bloodied and traumatized after a BDSM scene gone horribly wrong, Ian takes him in, no questions asked. But it turns out that Nick has a fate of his own to fulfill in Olympic Cove, as well as two gorgeous mermen who are intent on claiming him as their own.

Enjoy, and make sure to hit the list after the teaser to see other great Mid Week Teases!

Chiron glanced back at him, eyes narrowing thoughtfully. For a moment Nick was terrified that he could read minds, and tried to generate mental static.

“He should heal cleanly. Decent enough work,” the centaur admitted, straightening up and yanking the blanket back over Aidan. “Now, what the hell are you keeping in your closet?”

“What?”

“Never mind. Move.” Chiron easily brushed him to the side, pulling open the closet door and staring at the clothes Nick had hung up earlier. “Gaia’s tits. Where do you shop, Goodwill?”

“I had to pack fast, all right? They—“

A hand came up, silencing him as Chiron leaned closer. Blue eyes went wide. “Oh. Oh, shit.”

“What?” Nick got on tiptoe to peer around the centaur’s huge shoulder. The closet looked exactly like it had earlier — shirts and jeans hung up on hangers, his bag shoved into the bottom, flip-flops next to it, snake-wrapped staff propped against one wall. “What’s wrong?”

Chiron straightened up, pointing at the stick. “Where did you get that?”

Nick blinked, both at the bizarre non sequitur and the odd tone in the centaur’s voice. “An antique shop. It’s over in Olympic Beach, Ian knows the owner. Why is everyone getting on my case about it? It’s just a walking stick that looks like–“

“–the rod of Asclepius,” Chiron finished.

“Yeah. I mean, it’s a pretty good copy of the rod, but I still don’t understand–“

Chiron turned, glaring at him. “It’s not a copy of the rod of Asclepius, you moron,” he growled. “It is the rod of Asclepius. I’d know that damned thing anywhere. How the hell did you wind up with it?”

That was the last straw. “Okay, back off, Mister Ed,” Nick shot back. “I’ve have a really tough couple of days, I have one hell of a situation waiting for me back home, and then I get down here and find out that not only do mermaids,” he looked over his shoulder at Aidan, “and mermen exist, but so do the Greek gods.” He waved a hand at Chiron’s misty midsection. “And whatever you are.”

The blue gaze turned chilly. “I’m a centaur. The centaur, if you like. The first one.”

“Fine, you’re the centaur, sorry. I’m willing to accept that all of this is real, okay? But you can’t expect me to believe that I found the actual, genuine rod of Asclepius in a junk shop in a Florida beach town.”

Chiron folded his arms across his chest. “Why not?”

“Because real life doesn’t work like that!” Nick barely stopped himself from screaming the words. “This shit doesn’t even happen in movies, because nobody would believe it!”

The centaur actually tsked at him. “You’re disturbing your patient, doctor.”

Flushing, Nick glanced at the bed. Aidan had rolled onto his back, giving him a wary look. “Fuck. I’m sorry, Aidan. Try to go back to sleep. You,” he turned back to Chiron. “Follow me. We’re gonna finish this in the living room.”

“By all means.” Chiron nodded at the walking stick. “Just bring that with.”

“Why?”

“Humor me.”

Cursing under his breath, Nick grabbed the staff and started to slam the closet door closed, catching himself at the last moment. “Outside. Now.”

Holding the staff in a death grip, he stomped into the living room, a smirking centaur on his heels. Ian, Bythos and Aphros were on the couch, arms around each other and heads close together. “Guys, could we have some privacy?

Ian straightened up, pushing his boyfriends’ hands off his thighs. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, except that Mr. ‘I’m the first centaur’ here thinks that this,” Nick brandished the staff, “is the rod of Asclepius. The real one.”

He almost dropped it when the snake’s head rose and turned to him. I don’t understand why that surprises you so much, physician. And don’t drop me — you do and I swear to Gaia I will give you such a bite.

Mid Week Tease: Breaker Zone

This week, I’ll be sharing a teaser from my current WIP and Book Two in the Olympic Cove series, Breaker Zone. Their tongues met, clashed, tangled with an intensity that set Nick’s nerves on fire. Fingers slid between his own, clenching down and pinning his hands against the mattress. The knowledge that he was trapped under the merman’s body poured gasoline on his need, and he mewled into Aidan’s mouth.

“You like that?” the merman said, grinding his cock against Nick’s. “You like knowing you’re mine?”

“Yes,” Nick gasped. “Oh, God, yes.”

“Good.”

That wet, hungry mouth left his, sucking open-mouthed kisses along his jaw, down the side of his neck. Teeth nipped the tender space under his ear, and Nick bucked up uncontrollably, desperate. Aidan chuckled, the filthiest laugh he had ever heard. “Yeah, you like that. You want me to own you, make you mine. You want me to fuck you, angel.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “I’ll fill you up, nice and deep. You’ll have to wrap those long legs around me, because I’m not gonna let you move. I’ll make you lie there and feel my cock pushing inside you over and over again. I’ll keep hitting your sweet spot and you’ll go crazy because it feels so good. And I won’t come until I feel you pulsing around me, coming hard and screaming my name. Then I’ll mark you, make you mine. You want that?”

Nick couldn’t speak. He could only nod, his throat clicking dryly.

“Mmm.” Aidan worked down his body, leaving a trail of livid bites and suck marks in his wake. That wicked, perfect mouth closed around his nipple, tongue teasing it hard, then nipping. A little shock of pain shot through his body, grounding out somewhere between his cock and balls. Nick drove his head hard into the pillow, feeling the promise of pain turning into pleasure, the lure of subspace.

Aidan switched to his other nipple, nipping and licking it until it was erect. He switched off between the two until they were swollen and aching, glistening from his mouth. “I’m going to let go of your hands.”

Nick whined, and flinched at the hard bite on his sternum. “You’re going to grab your headboard and hold on, like a good boy. You understand?”

“Yes, Sir.”

Go home, May, you’re drunk

I live in the clavicle of Texas, which means that as soon as May rolls around I prepare myself for the oncoming hell that is summer in Texas. My lawn guy (yes, I have a lawn guy — I’m busy and Ramón doesn’t do yardwork) was just mentioning to me yesterday that our city will be going to Stage 3 water restriction as of June 1st, as we stood outside in short sleeves and chatted in the 82°F sunny weather.

So will someone tell me why the temperature outside currently stands at 46°F, the trees are whipping back and forth like Willow Smith’s old hairstyle, and I’ve heard reports of snow? Apparently it’s actually snowing in Kansas City right now, which must come as quite the surprise to all the RT attendees (one woman tweeted that she’d packed a nice summer sundress, and had to go out to buy warmer clothes). Granted, I don’t mind cooler weather, especially if it keeps the triple digit days down to July/August, but this is ridiculous. Not to mention it’s seriously fucking with my budget, since by now the A/C should be on permanently and I’m keeping a nervous eye on the electric bill. Instead, I’m wearing thick socks and a shawl, the heat is on and I have to mentally adjust how much gets paid to the gas company and how much gets paid to the electric company. I’m old — I don’t like surprises. So sue me.

The good thing about the crappy weather is that I feel no need whatsoever to go outside, and indeed am stuck back into Behind the Iron Cross with a vengeance. The goal is to have it done and dusted by May 15, then let it sit for the rest of the month while I crack open Breaker Zone. The only problem with BZ is that I’m still kinda sorta working out the middle of the book — I know how it starts and ends, but hooking those two terminii up is my current mental cud chewing task while doing housework or crafting.

And then there’s Two to Tango, which is also calling for my attention, not to mention the alternate history mystery and the SF novels in my to do queue. There are times I really wish I didn’t have to sleep. Or had minions. Yeah, I could really do with some minions.

In other news, Storm Season continues to rise like a slow tide, which is heartening. I don’t have any “official” reviews yet, but it’s going over a treat at Goodreads, I have a nice 4-star review at Amazon, it’s slowly climbing the Paranormal/Horror bestseller chart at All Romance Ebooks, and it’s currently the highest-rated Evernight book in Bookstrand’s 30 Day Bestseller list for paranormal romance. Plus it’s selling steadily at Amazon, and I’m hoping that I’m close to 25 sales through Evernight’s website or have already cracked that. I figure as I build my backlist the sales will slowly increase and I’ll start developing a name for myself. Granted, that name will probably be, “Oh, that chick who does those weird SF/fantasy/suspense/erotic romance mashups,” but I’ll take what I can get.

Onward, Forward, Upward on a Sunday

With Storm Season about to be released, it’s time to start the outlining process for Book Two in the Olympic Cove series, Breaker Zone. I’ve had the general romance outline of the story in my head for quite some time, now — Dr. Nick Gardiner, a friend of Ian’s from Chicago, shows up on the cottage doorstep after a traumatic experience sends him running for his life. After a shocking introduction to Ian’s new existence, Nick becomes the student of a contentious Chiron, and falls in love with Kieran and Liam, two mermen with a shared secret.

Apart from that, however, I didn’t really have details about how this new triad plays into the war with Storm Season‘s Big Baddie, nor did have details about Nick, Kieran and Liam apart from what they looked like and the fact that both Ki and Liam have kids (merfolk society is gender-indifferent, but requires its members to reproduce in order to keep up population numbers). After spending the last couple of days noodling, however, I now, have the theme of the book — losing and regaining trust (Storm Season‘s theme is personal responsibility, in case you’re interested, and the third book, Deep Current, has a theme of faith). With that in place, I’m moving forward on the plot outline, which looks to include quite a lot of suspense if my early plot points stay true. I also discovered that Nick used to play drums with a grunge band back in college, Ki is a brilliant hunter and loyal lover but not the sharpest shell in the sea, and Liam is more than a bit kinky (which appeals to Nick’s submissive side and will play nicely into certain scenes I’ve already mapped out).

So yeah, that’s my Sunday. How is yours shaping up?
