Wicked Wednesday Reads: Releasing Rage
Whee, it’s Wednesday! Never fear, for today I’m here with Cynthia Sax and her smoking new SF erotic romance Releasing Rage, now available from online purveyors of fine erotic romance. Take it away, Cynthia!
Who here is participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month – a 30 day challenge to writers to crank out 50,000 words – http://nanowrimo.org)?
I am! And Releasing Rage, my most recent cyborg story, is a great example of one of my top tips for NaNoWriMo.
Write balls to the wall.
Get your mind out of the gutter. (grins) That saying refers to cannonballs, though I suppose it could apply to other kinds of balls also. What it means is to write that first draft all out, no filters, no thinking ‘will my agent, editor, reviewers, readers like this?’ or ‘is this sellable?’ Dump everything on the page—your words, your heart, your guts.
When I wrote the first draft of Releasing Rage, I was in a dark, angry mood and I poured all of that delicious emotion into the story. I didn’t think it would be published. VERY bad things happen to the heroine. I knew established publishers wouldn’t take a risk on those types of scenes (and I was right. They didn’t.). I was writing this story for me, for my eyes only.
Many of the scenes scared the stuffing out of me. They were raw and gritty and exposed a slice of my soul. I wrote them anyway. Often our scariest scenes are the most gripping. They reveal a truth about us, about people. That’s why they frighten us.
We should also write full out because it is much easier to dial emotion back then it is to add it. It is easier to water down scenes than it is to make them more raw.
I had the choice to do this with Releasing Rage. I could have taken out the gritty scenes, dialed back the darkness. That wouldn’t have been a ‘wrong’ choice. There are no wrong choices in writing. It would have merely been a different choice.
I chose to leave the darkness and self-publish Releasing Rage. It is a love it or hate it type of story. The people who love it REALLY love it. The people who hate it want to burn my house down. (laughs) But it is a story I’m extremely proud of.
Have you ever written a scene that scared you? Have you ever read a scene where you knew the writer left a piece of her or his soul on the page?
Half Man. Half Machine. All Hers.
Rage, the Humanoid Alliance’s most primitive cyborg, has two goals–kill all of the humans on his battle station and escape to the Homeland. The warrior has seen the darkness in others and in himself. He believes that’s all he’s been programmed to experience.
Until he meets Joan.
Joan, the battle station’s first female engineer, has one goal–survive long enough to help the big sexy cyborg plotting to kill her. Rage might not trust her but he wants her. She sees the passion in his eyes, the caring in his battle-worn hands, the gruff emotion in his voice.
When Joan survives the unthinkable, Rage’s priorities are tested. Is there enough room in this cyborg’s heart for both love and revenge?

Fabulous Friday Reads: Unprofessional
TGIF! Let’s kick off the weekend with Allyson Young’s new Romance on the Go story Unprofessional, now available from Evernight Publishing and other purveyors of fine erotic romance. Take it away, Allyson!
Hannah Evans is personal assistant to the very professional Benjamin Willis, and he keeps her firmly in that role. Her boss is a great man, and if he rewards himself with a large number of blondes, well, even great men can be misguided. Hannah couldn’t ask for anything more in her job—except she’s fallen for her boss. And now Mr. Willis seems to be seeking more than mere pleasure. What if he finds a woman with a beauty and brains? Unable to bear the idea, Hannah submits her resignation. Faced with losing her, Benjamin’s entire being reacts in shock, dismay and outrage, causing him to examine how he actually views Hannah. She has had months to come to terms with her strong emotions while he has had mere hours. But Benjamin is a quick study and discovers his true feelings for the woman who has been right under his nose.
Story Excerpt
“Hannah.” Her name fell harshly from his lips and she blinked several times, appearing to get herself under control. “Tell me why you’re leaving.” Leaving me.
“I appreciate the opportunity,” she nearly whispered. “Seeing as I had no experience.”
“You said that in your letter of resignation,” he agreed. “And I was happy to give it to you. You proved yourself quickly.” He shifted a tad closer and studied the rising color in her cheeks.
“I … I can’t stay on. Big world of opportunity out there and all.”
“You’re not telling me the truth. How bad can it be?”
Giving into an instinctive urge, he grasped her other hand and hauled her close. He locked his gaze with hers when she looked up, startled. “Tell me,” he insisted.
“I can’t.” She nearly whimpered and a good man would have backed off and let her go. He couldn’t find it within himself to do it.
Recognizing he couldn’t force her to confide, he resorted to sneakier tactics. He turned on the charm and cajoled. “Hannah, you’re invaluable to me and I can’t get my head around finding someone to replace you. Is it something I’ve done? Is the salary an issue?”
A shake of her head sent more strands of hair drifting down to her shoulders, these longer than the others, and they rested against the upper swells of her breasts. His stare traced their path before he glanced up to see her eyes wide with surprise. God, she was lovely. Smart, skilled and talented, all woman. Different from—
“Benjamin?” His name wasn’t on Hannah’s lips but spoken at his office door. He recognized that voice. “Benjamin?”
He could only imagine how it looked, his disheveled PA sprawled in a chair, him kneeling at her feet, holding her hands captive and their faces mere inches apart. With an effort, he turned his head and acknowledged his latest fling. Past fling. “Give me a minute, Tiffany.”
Hannah quivered and tried to pull away, but he hung on tightly, willing the tall blonde out of his office.
“I see you’ve already replaced me,” she replied, scorn and anger coloring her voice. At any other time, he might have found her alluring, all flushed with outrage and passion. As usual, Tiffany was dressed to the nines in a body-revealing outfit that displayed her long, slender figure and enhanced breasts to full advantage. But she left him cold, something new, because he rarely tired of his blondes physically, choosing to keep his hookups brief to avoid emotional attachment.
Tiffany sneered at Hannah. “She’s hardly your taste. Pudgy and plain, wouldn’t you say?”
If he hadn’t known to keep hold of Hannah, wrapping his hands around Tiffany’s elegant neck might have been an excellent alternative. “Get out.”
“Gladly. You’re welcome to him, secretary-type. It won’t last, especially as he’s slumming.”
He spared her only enough of a look to ensure she had indeed gone before turning back to Hannah. Who was staring at him with a multitude of emotions washing over her expressive features.
“She’s different than the others.” Well, that was the last thing he expected.
“Excuse me?” He knew he sounded astonished.
“She has a career. So she must use her brain. And she meets all your other criteria.”
Hannah would know, he acknowledged inwardly. Except it appeared she was wrong— his preferences were changing. Had changed. His lower body, and not his now aching knees, was in total agreement. Hannah had been under his nose all this time with her quiet, efficient ways and non-intrusive manner, yet he would bet she knew more about him than he knew about himself. But she was leaving, so obviously didn’t feel the same. No point in opening that door, especially as he lacked the tools. He ground his back teeth against a disappointed growl and clambered to his feet after carefully setting Hannah’s hands on her lap.
“I’m sorry she said those things.”
“Which ones?” She sounded intent, earnest, and peered up at him.
“She insulted you.”
Hannah shrugged and those round breasts lifted higher on her torso. “No comparison. We aren’t even the same species, I don’t think.”
Benjamin laughed. That was the effect Hannah had on him despite all that had just taken place. He felt … happy around her. And there was that shift again. She’d been an enormous part of his life for over a year. He’d spent more time—awake at least—with her than any other person. His laughter faded when he imagined the future without her.

TGIF! Let’s kick off the weekend with Raven McAllan’s new book Sybille’s Lord, now available from Evernight Publishing and other purveyors of fine erotic romance. Take it away, Raven!
Hi there, thanks for letting me drop by. waves madly
I’m so excited. Sybille’s Lord is ready to jump onto your eReader.
This is the third story in the Moon Curse series.
Compromised, the first story is a prequel, and a free read. That’s Theo and Mijo’s story. The rest of the books are their children’s stories as they try to make their family’s fortunes
You can download Compromised here on the Evernight website, or from Amazon, Are or Bookstrand
The second story is Lord Suitor. That’s Tessa’s story. You can buy that here on Evernight, or from the aforementioned sources.
And now drum roll book 3, Sybille’s Lord is out on 11th September and yes you can get it from Evernight here.
That of course is Sybille’s story.
When you have to marry to save your family’s fortunes, and the man of your dreams offers for you, you ought to be ecstatic, right?
Not, if you want it all, you’re not. Having witnessed first hand a love match in the shining example of her parents, Sybille is not prepared to settle for anything less than true love.
Thomas, Lord Jeavons might have proposed, but does he love her? Especially once she tells him her secrets.
For his part, Thom is enchanted, and far from being put off by Sybille’s demands, he vows to do everything in his power to convince her that he is the only man for her—both in and out of the bedroom.
With her family’s good name at stake, can they solve all their issues before it is too late and find their own happy ever after?
Story Excerpt
“Now where were we? Ah yes you were undressing me. However, I think I’ll do the next bit. Otherwise your education might push ahead faster than either of us anticipated.” Thom gestured to the bulge in his pantaloons. “My pego is so desirous of making your acquaintance, I might spill before he gets the chance.”
Sybille nodded, although she wasn’t really sure what he meant.
Thom grinned, as he hooked his fingers into the waistband of his pantaloons and inched them over his cock. “When a man is as excited as I am, sometimes he can spill his seed even before he enters a woman. Now we all know it is preferable to withdraw from her so…” He stopped. “Ah, do you understand what I mean?”
“Well, of course. If you don’t want a child on the wrong side of the blanket you don’t sow your seed in fertile ground.” Thank goodness for those pamphlets. “So you withdraw.”
Thom finished taking off his clothes. “Exactly.” He collected a ewer of water and a towel, and put them next to the wine. As he moved, his pego bobbed and swayed.
Almost as if it is introducing itself. Sybille mentally scoffed at herself. Giving a man’s staff a mind of its own. What next? Imagining it was about to speak?
Thom lifted the covers and crawled onto the bed next to her. “Let me warm you up.”
“I’m not… ah well ohhh my…” She spluttered to a halt as he took her nipple into his mouth and tugged. A hot flame of awareness streaked through her. She moved her legs restlessly, searching for a way to relieve the ache in between her thighs.
“Wait, my love.” Thom moved his ministrations to her other breast. He stroked her belly in soft soothing circles and edged his fingers lower, to ruffle the curls that covered her mound. “So beautiful.”
Sybille moaned. The soft voice teased her senses once more as she arched up into his hand.
“Slowly, love.”
It was as if she sat beside the bed, watching them. Thom kicked the covers to the bottom of the bed, and parted her legs with his thigh. Then she not only saw in her mind, but also felt one long, elegant finger enter her. She gasped. It was oh so different from anything she had sought to do to herself.
He paused. “All right? Tell me if not.”
“Oh so very right. I want more.”
“Impatient.” He kissed her nose. “All things come to…”
“Those who wait. I have waited.”
“So you have.” He added another finger, and then, as she clenched and relaxed her muscles around him, touched her nub with his thumb.
Tremors rushed through her and she writhed and arched off the bed. Thom held her down and increased the pressure. “Fly for me, my love.” He nipped her nipple with his teeth.
That connection from breast to where his fingers teased and pushed, increased tenfold.
Lights flashed before her eyes, stars danced in front of her, and her body was on fire. She was falling over the edge and into that place where nothing mattered except them.
With a keening cry, Sybille fell into the abyss.

About Raven McAllan
Raven lives in Scotland, along with her husband and their two cats—their children having flown the nest—surrounded by beautiful scenery, which inspires a lot of the settings in her books.
She is used to sharing her life with the occasional deer, red squirrel, and lost tourist, to say nothing of the scourge of Scotland—the midge.
Her very understanding, and long-suffering DH, is used to his questions unanswered, the dust bunnies greeting him as he walks through the door, and rescuing burned offerings from the Aga. (And passing her a glass of wine as she types furiously.)

Fabulous Friday Reads: A Taste for Three
TGIF! Let’s kick off the weekend with Rebecca Black’s new book A Taste for Three, now available from Evernight Publishing and other purveyors of fine erotic romance. Take it away, Rebecca!
Thanks so much for hosting me today and letting me give my new book A Taste For Three a big shout out. I love a good menage story, so when I decided to write a book it was always going to involve three people. I think this story has all the ingredients for a spicy menage: two sexy chefs, and a restaurateur, all bringing their special talents to the mix!
I aim to write erotic romance with plenty of heart as well as plenty of hot sex. Here’s a little taste just for you…
What’s worse than wanting a man she can’t have? Wanting his best friend as well, that’s what. Double the torture, double the sexual frustration, and double the pain in her heart when she desires everything she can’t have.
Chef Ellie Masters has a problem. Not only is she in love with two gorgeous men, but they both just happen to be her bosses. She’s holding back for all the right reasons, but is there a way for them to be together or will their powerful sexual attraction tear them apart?
In the sensual world of their French restaurant, Jack Quinn and Nate Johnson must find a way to level the playing field if they want more than just sumptuous food from their talented chef. Going to work has never been so sexy. A Taste for Three will leave you savouring this delicious menage and wanting more.
Story Excerpt
Her gaze moved from one to the other with an expectant look on her face. Her eyes rested on Jack when he leaned forward to rest his arms on the table. His beer was between his big hands and she watched his fingers trace the drops of condensation as they raced down the bottle.
“Us.” Jack’s hazel eyes locked with hers.
She swallowed. Hard. “Us? What do you mean?”
“The three of us. There’s more going on between us than just work.” His words held a note of conviction.
Oh God! He said three. He definitely said three. They couldn’t possibly know that she wanted both of them, could they? How the hell had she given that away? She thought she’d been so professional with them.
“Stop panicking, Ellie. Nothing we say or do from now on will affect our plans for the restaurants.” Nate’s calming words helped to some extent, but she still hadn’t taken her eyes off Jack. He was watching her like he expected her to run at any moment. He looked like he’d enjoy chasing her down and catching her too.
“I don’t understand…”
“We want you, Ellie. We need to know if you feel the same way.” Jack stated.
“We? What does that mean? I…both of you? But…”
“Yes. We want you. We need to know if you feel the same. Would you be prepared to be with us both?”
How was she supposed to respond to that? Nothing in her limited experience with men had prepared her for this conversation. She couldn’t see how anything good—well, apart from the sex—was going to come from this. How were they supposed to juggle working together, fucking, and being in a threesome? She wanted to though, so badly. Oh God, just the thought of having both of them.
But she just couldn’t risk it. What would happen when it was over? How could they possibly remain friends and work together? She’d be completely alone again if she had to leave. Her brain felt like it was in danger of a full meltdown. The temptation to run was strong and before she knew what she was doing, she’d jumped up. Her chair fell back. A distant part of her brain knew this wasn’t the most dignified way to handle this, but her fight or flight response was definitely urging her to get the hell out of there and not make a massive mistake.
She vaguely registered Nate’s shocked expression turning into a fleeting look of distress, but she didn’t get far before a steely arm grabbed her around her waist, yanking her off her feet. She was fairly sure she let out a little squeal as she landed on Jack’s lap.
“What the hell, Ellie?”
“Jack, calm down. She’s obviously freaked out.”
“I get that, but when did running away solve anything? We’re all adults here. If she doesn’t want this, all she has to do is say no.”
“We’ve gone about this all wrong, come on too strong. She’s scared. God, Ellie, we never wanted that. We just want to be with you. That’s all we’ve ever wanted.”
Jack’s arm held her firmly around her middle while his other hand rested on her hip.
Her heart was still trying to beat its way out of her chest, but she couldn’t ignore the heat emanating from his body. The hand on her hip kept gently, rhythmically flexing and releasing. She started to relax as she quietly listened to their words. She could hear the anxiety in both their voices and felt a rush of guilt at how she’d reacted. She was such a naive idiot—but she’d beat herself up for that later. Right now, she needed to make things right with the two most important men in her life.
“I’m sorry,” she said softly. “I’m an idiot. I shouldn’t have tried to run off like that.”
“Jesus, don’t apologize, Ellie.” Nate reached across the table to take her hand. “It’s ok that you don’t want this. We’ll carry on and forget we ever mentioned it. Nothing needs to change—”
“I want it,” she whispered.

Nicola’s Sunday Shoutout: Bad Alpha @evernightpub #badalpha #eroticromance
Bad Alpha and Bad Alpha: Manlove Edition feature a select collection of stories with shifters so ruthless they will stop at nothing to protect their pack. These aren’t sugar-and-spice heroes. Our alphas are feared, inked, and don’t ask questions first. They take what they want, never give in to their enemies, and think love is for the weak—until they meet their mate. Are you ready to learn how to tame a savage heart?
Hey folks, Nicola here! I am extremely delighted to host both of Evernight Publishing’s newest anthologies today (and not just because I have a story in one of them). I asked some of the authors to tell me what inspired their stories about bad alphas and the mates who love them.
Doris O’Connor
From the minute the submission call for the Bad Alpha Anthology went up, I knew I would have to write something. I love shifters and bad boys. Combine the two…yes, I could not resist that, so it wasn’t a huge surprise when I woke up one morning with bear shifter Zayden growling in my ear.
He was a sought after assassin, and he came to me mid kill of his latest assignment. Cynical, deadly, this killer for hire has no time for tender feelings, let alone a mate, so when he finds out that the Alpha he’s been hired to kill, is his mate.
In his words…
Quinton Thorn was his fucking mate. The universe was having a great big laugh at his fucking expense. He’d come here to kill his mate. His bear roared at the mere thought, and Zayden shook his head. He could no more kill the man than he could have killed his own mother. He wasn’t a complete fucking animal, but the new tender feelings that had coursed through him when he’d shaken Quinton’s hand meant he felt like a fish out of water. He knew how to kill and fuck, but he had no idea what to do about these emotions.
Such a delicious conflict. What would Quinton do when he finds out that his mate is a killer?
L.D. Blakeley

When the call for submissions was announced for Bad Alpha: Manlove, I mulled it over for approximately 10 seconds before deciding, “Yep! It’s time to throw your hat into the horror/supernatural ring.” Later that evening, while picking out a movie to watch, my husband mentioned that the myth behind the 2001 French movie Le pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) might be fun to somehow incorporate into a story. So off I went, down the Google rabbit hole. There is a ton of info out there with regard to the Beast of Gévaudan. And with so much actual fact mixed up nicely with the fiction, the idea became all that more appealing. My story, “Destined”, didn’t take long to work its way onto paper (especially with Joe Manganiello and Gaspard Ulliel taking shape in my head as Marick and Caleb, respectively!)

Yes, it’s Monday once again! But let’s turn that work week frown upside down with Moira Callahan’s hot new book The Rhythm (Living Victorious Book 1), now available from Evernight Publishing and other purveyors of erotic romance. Take it away, Moira!
Jennifer Mitchell has only one goal in mind—she must get an interview with the band Victorious. It’s a task many journalists have attempted over the last ten years, only to be shot down by the band’s manager. The fact she desperately wants to meet their drummer has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Being the drummer for Victorious allows Lance West to remain out of the spotlight, and still have an important role in creating the music their fans clamor for. Then he meets Jennifer. While she may be focused on an exclusive interview, Lance has other ideas for the sexy woman.
Screaming fans and thunderous applause might warm his blood, but Lance only wants one woman to warm his bed night after night. She is everything to him, the rhythm that soothes his scarred soul, and he’ll do whatever it takes to prove it.
Story Excerpt
His hand moved to wrap around her throat forcing her chin up. She didn’t feel threatened. It had her knees wobbling, and her pussy throbbing in need. “I actually do need to say them, Jennifer. It’s a driving need to try and explain to you what I’m thinking and feeling.” He stroked his thumb over her pulse tenderly while staring down at her.
Swallowing, she pressed her hands lightly to his chest, her fingers stroking over the tight muscle until she settled them on the waist of his jeans. “Why?” she asked. She wasn’t entirely sure what she was asking either. Popping the top button loose, she worked her way down the line of buttons until his jeans gaped open. She quickly discovered he was going commando under his jeans when she rubbed a finger to the short curls at his groin.
At her throat, his hand flexed. His pupils dilated, and his breathing turned sharper. “Because we’re connected. On a level I can’t begin to describe, in a way I’m not sure I can comprehend. All I know is that you are important and that means you need to know exactly how I feel about you. All of you.”
His words hit her hard. No one had said anything of the sort to her before. There was a deeper meaning behind them. She wasn’t ready to dissect them yet, but later she knew she would. All she could do right then was fist the front of his jeans and push to her toes to kiss him. She didn’t have any words to give back, her mind, and tongue too tied in knots to try. But she could maybe make him understand that she got it with a kiss.
The hand at her throat slid around into her hair as he deepened the kiss. His tongue slid over hers to tangle with it. Moaning into the kiss, she pushed at his jeans until gravity took over.
She felt him shift to kick them away, and then his body was pressed up tight against hers. With the hand in her hair and the other that landed on her ass, he began to move her. Until she felt the bed at the backs of her legs, she hadn’t cared where he was guiding her. In that moment, she needed him with a growing ferocity that scared her.
Twisting, she pushed him to his back on the mattress. A knee next to his hip helped her up to straddle him. Then their mouths were fused together again. Another moan tore from her as he rolled, and pushed them further up on the bed. The sensations bombarding her when he settled his body to hers nearly had her coming apart at the seams.
It had been too long since she’d had the intimate touch of a man. But never, not once, had she truly felt this in tune with another person as she did with Lance. Both a terrifying and extremely liberating sensation. Now if only she could convince him to move things along.

About Moira Callahan
Moira Callahan is a Canadian born and raised author. She loves to write, and only has a few select criteria that have to be in each of her books. A great story, steamy romance, and a HEA ending. The sub-genre isn’t as important to her as making whatever she writes feel real, and in the moment to her readers.
To that end she insists her characters be as real as everyday folks, even if they are blessed with a little fictional fairy dust to make them anyone’s personal fantasy. They must have faults, they must have a weakness, and they must have soul. To that end she writes her characters with a mixture of traits – a dash from herself, and something borrowed from a friend. This way the character is as perfectly imperfect as any other person on the planet.
