Mid Week Tease: Deep Water #MidWeekTease #MWTease
Happy Hump Day! Let’s celebrate it with another wonderful Mid Week Tease, courtesy of the lovely and talented Sandra Bunino. I’m afraid I don’t have any sexy scenes from Deep Water ready for prime time yet, so you’ll have to make do with a scene where Poseidon suddenly has to deal with a stricken Griffin. Next week, sex, I promise!
Enjoy, and make sure to hit the list after the teaser to see other great Mid Week Teases!
Poseidon, God of the Sea, has spent millennia alone due to a single terrible act — a drunken assault on his agapetos, or fated mate, shared with his consort Amphitrite. His queen has sworn never to forgive him for his actions, and he must live with the knowledge that he drove an innocent girl to a dreadful retribution.
But when one of the Olympic Cove cottages gets a new occupant with an all-too-familiar soul, Poseidon discovers that the Fates have given him a second chance. Now he must try to right the wrongs of the past and win back both his beloved consort and the mate he betrayed.
Assuming, of course, that the Mad Nereid Thetis doesn’t interfere…
Horrified, Poseidon watched as Griffin stiffened without warning, then started to collapse. The sea god lunged forward, grabbing the Englishman before he could tumble back onto the boat. Muscles twitched hard under Poseidon’s hands as Griffin began to jerk, limbs flailing awkwardly. His eyes rolled up, showing a sliver of white.
Not knowing what else to do, Poseidon scooped the man up and translocated to the mersβ cottage, landing in a stylish tiled living area. βNicholas!β he bellowed. βI need help!β
Seconds later a dripping Nick came running into the room, hastily wrapping a towel around his waist. βWhat’s wrong?β
βWe were just getting off the sailboat and he collapsed,” Poseidon blurted, holding Griffin up. “Help him, please!β
Nick’s expression changed, turning professional. βOkay, heβs seizing. Lay him out on the floor, carefully,β he ordered. βKeep your hands under his head, donβt let him bang it on the floor.β
Poseidon did as instructed, dropping to his knees without a flinch and laying Griffin out on the cool tile. He slid one large hand under the manβs skull, cradling it as Nick also knelt, checking Griffin’s pulse.
Just then Griffin relaxed, arms dropping to the tiles in a boneless flop. There was a sharp smell, and Poseidon saw a dark stain bloom across the front of the manβs shorts.
Nick caught the godβs glance. βSometimes the bladder cuts loose during a seizure,” he said. “Itβs no big deal.”
βAll right.β Unsure of what else to do, Poseidon remained in a crouch, one hand still cradling Griffinβs head as Nick continued his examination. βDoes he need any medication? Iβll fetch whatever is required.β
Nick sat back on his heels, shaking his hed. βIf he was still seizing Iβd have you go get some Keppra, but right now we just have to wait until he wakes up.β He grabbed a pillow from the nearby couch and held it out to Poseidon. βHere, put that under his head so you can sit up–β
βNo,β Poseidon snarled.
Nick twitched at his tone, but kept the pillow out. βLook, some patients are really freaked out by people hovering over them when they wake up from a seizure,” he said gently. “I promise you, I won’t let him hurt himself, but give him a little space.β
“Oh.” Reluctantly, Poseidon accepted the pillow and slid it under Griffinβs head, settling back to wait.
After a few minutes the manβs eyelids fluttered, opening slowly and blearily. βWhaβ happened?β he mumbled.
βYou had a seizure,β Nick said, his words low and clear. βPβDunn brought you over here.β
Brown eyes focused on Poseidon. The sea god watched, helpless, as they filled with shame and anger. βFuck,β Griffin whispered.
Nick cleared his throat. βI take it youβve had seizures before?β
βYeah. I thoughtββ Griffin grimaced, rolling his head towards the doctor. βWhere am I?β
βMy living room. Iβm Nick β I hosted the cookout last night.β
βYeah, I remember.β Now Griffin looked back at Poseidon. βDunn. Shit. I’m sorry, mate.β
βYou have nothing to be sorry about,β Poseidon insisted.
βYeah, I do.β Griffin struggled to get up. Poseidon leaned in to help, sliding an arm under Griffinβs back and easing him into a sitting position. βI didnβt think that was going to happen. My docββ He stopped, jaw clenching briefly. βI have medication for it. Guess it didnβt work.β
βYou may have just overdone it a bit,β Nick said. βWhere were you two?β
βOn a sailboat,β Poseidon said before Griffin could answer. βIs that dangerous?β
The doctor frowned. βIf heβs by himself, definitely.”
Griffin grunted, belatedly looking down at his lap. He flushed, clasping his hands over the stain. βShit.β His voice was raw with humiliation.
βItβs tile, donβt worry about it,β Nick said easily. βWhy donβt we get you into the bathroom so you can get cleaned up? Youβre about my size. Iβll lend you some shorts.β
Griffinβs face was still red, but he nodded.
βCool. Dunn?β
βOh. Yes.β Scrambling to get his feet under him, Poseidon helped Griffin stand up. He didnβt want to let go, but the man almost tore out of his grasp.
βI can do it,β Griffin growled. βWhereβs the loo?β
βThis way.β Nick guided him towards a hallway. Helpless and hating himself for it, Poseidon followed.

No sex, but you captured tons of raw tension. Plus, it felt very real. Captivating for sure.
Thank you. I really needed to set up the emotional situation between these two before they get intimate, and this is one of the scenes where Poseidon needs to realize that he can’t control everything. Which is a tough thing to accept if you’re a god.
Oh, talk about a painful situation for them both. Great tease, Nicola. π
Things do get better soon, I promise!
Oh bless him. That was a fantastic scene, and you really made me feel for them. Great stuff, Nicola π
Thanks so much, Doris. This has been a very interesting relationship to write because they’re both mature men (in Poseidon’s case, VERY mature) and there’s a lot of emotional baggage being carted into the room.
Reading through the comments here, Nicola and I can only agree. You did a wonderful job with the emotions. This definitely comes off as grown men dealing with pretty raw stuff which immediately sucked me in. I loved it.
Thanks, Carlene. Next week, though, we get to the hot stuff!
Aww, talk about plucking at the heartstrings!
Well, really, what’s a god supposed to do when a mortal he cares about suddenly gets sick and he can’t do anything about it? Talk about a horrible reality check.
